Municipalities may want to create more green space in the urban environment by planting many trees. But clearing electrical wires can be a challenge. Who has never been dismayed by the condition of a maple, ash, birch or elm tree after the pruners intervened? Most of the trees, cut roughly and truncated to let the wires through, are severely weakened. Urban tree management must be reviewed and appropriate pruning must be put into place.
Speaker: Jeanne Millet, PhD in plant biology. For over 20 years, she conducted research in tree architecture at the Institut de recherche en biologie végétale in Montreal. A true pioneer in this field, she has published two books on the subject with Éditions MultiMondes and was honoured with the René-Pomerleau Arboricultural Merit Award presented by the Société internationale d'arboriculture du Québec.
