History

In 2001, the Conférence régionale des élus (CRÉ) de Montréal, with joint funding from the Government of Québec, launched an extensive initiative to promote science and technology among young people on the Island of Montréal. The non-profit organization L’île du savoir (L’IDS) and the Eurêka! Festival were established as part of that initiative.

Initially focused on creating projects for teachers who play a predominant role in developing young people’s interest in science and technology, L’IDS expanded its mandate to assume management of Montréal’s big celebration of science; on July 20, 2016, L’île du savoir became the official producer of the Eurêka! Festival.

Through Eurêka!, L’île du savoir promotes Québec science while raising awareness among young people and the general public of the importance of scientific culture and research in meeting the challenges facing society.
